AP Biology Episode 6: Heredity

In this episode, we will dive into heredity!

The first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word heredity is probably related to genetics and DNA. That would be correct, but there is also more to it than just genes. For example, our environment, such as how we were born and raised, can also affect who we are as an individual.

A person’s heredity is the sum of all the genetic traits they inherit from their parents and ancestors. Scientists use this term to explain why siblings seem to have similar interests or personality traits

Genetics makes up the study of heredity. Traits are produced by genes found on chromosomes and provide the genotype of an organism. However, despite Gregor Mendel’s great work, not all traits follow Mendelian laws.
